Nichele Alexa Nibbs, a senior here at Brenau University, deserves this week’s fashion spotlight because of her hard work and dedication. Coming from St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, she was exposed to several different types of fashion. We previously asked Nibbs about whether she wanted to open a boutique after finishing school, but she would much rather create custom loos for people. I thought this showed perseverance, because it can be difficult to land those jobs. I am shining the bright spotlight on her by asking a few questions about her true love, fashion.

Why did you choose to pursue fashion?

“I chose fashion design, because there is no right or wrong way in fashion. Expressing oneself is done with the manipulation of fabrics, beading, sketching, designing, styling, etc. The world of fashion is a very broad spectrum. I love that about the industry. I enjoy fashion design, because being creative is a God-given talent I really enjoy, and I can’t see myself doing anything else honestly.”

You are participating in an upcoming fashion show. Tell us a little me about it.

“The fashion show is on April 16, 2016 at 4:30 p.m. There’s not a theme to the show in its entirety, but my inspiration for my collection derives from the Rococo Art Movement. My colors are green, blue, blue-green and white. I am also using rose gold and white pearls. I also had the opportunity to create textiles for my collection. This show will be the biggest show, because of the amount of work that will be in the show. We have 42 looks from the seniors combined, 6 looks from the juniors combined and looks from other classes as well. I can’t wait for it to get here so I can finally exhale.”

What type of fashion are you most interested in? Which type do you prefer to create?

“I prefer the creative aspect of fashion I don’t mind sewing, but I prefer to contribute my ideas and work alongside with others who are on the same level as me or higher.”

What would you like to do with fashion after you graduate?

“After I graduate, I hope to go to grad school at Savannah College and Design (SCAD) to obtain my Master’s in Fashion Design. I want to gain more knowledge in fashion design at an all-round design school. After grad school, I would love to work for a company on their creative design team.”Read more at:prom dresses 2016
