Louth fashion graduate raises £130 for Poppy Appeal

Leaving the hashtags out of our wedding

In a little over two months, I’m going to be Mrs. Stockrahm.

Since Logan proposed on Christmas Eve, our spare moments have been packed full of planning for our June wedding. Weekends are filled with visions of lavender and silver as we get everything together.

I’ve spent evenings focused on do-it-yourself projects, picking the right cheap prom dresses and preparing the invitations.

I thought everything was pretty well on track, at least as far as planning. But, someone asked a question that threw me off.

“What’s your wedding hashtag going to be?”

My what?!

I don’t go to many weddings, so my knowledge of the “wedding hashtag”concept is pretty minimal. I’m an avid social media user, but I tend to use the hashtag very seldom and usually just in an ironic sense. Of course, my favorite is the sarcastic #partylikeajournalist.

The concept of the hashtag (if you’re not already aware) is a way to allow people to find other posts with a similar topic. So, if you include #partylikeajournalist in your post, other social media users could potentially find your post while searching for that particular topic.

Naturally, like any technology-loving twenty-something would do, I Googled it. Which, of course, yielded 536,000 results.

Topics ranged from “Wedding Hashtag Ideas” to a personalized hashtag generator to “7 Steps to Crafting Your Wedding Hashtag.” Some of the ideas are straightforward, while other ideas are “punny.”

I honestly thought my toughest decision in preparing for the wedding (technology-wise) would be if I should waste money on stamps for RSVPs when people would rather text or email.

We are all so connected to our devices (myself especially), I’m not sure I want to promote having your phone out while I’m saying my vows.

Maybe I’ll stick with my sarcastic preference for hashtags, such as #leaveittothephotog.

That reminds me: Have I booked the photographer yet? Uh oh.
