Louis Vuitton afterparty filled with fashion and fun

Sitting in the lobby of the Parker Palm Springs, the first famous face to walk past me was Marisa Tomei.

Dressed in a dark blue pantsuit with white polka dots and her hair high on her head, the Academy Award winner known for her bubbly personality looked exquisite.

She was one of hundreds invited to the exclusive Louis Vuitton fashion show high up on the hill at Bob Hope’s fantastical home on Wednesday that included A-list celebrities, international fashion journalists and a handful of local tastemakers.

Guests were shuttled to the venue from the swanky Parker Palm Springs, so prior to the 6:15 p.m. show, the lobby was overflowing with anticipation and style. It was like eye candy with all the chic outfits and trendy shoes.

The next big name to make his way through the Parker lobby was Kanye. I wasn’t surprised to see the fashion-happy rapper there, but I was a little surprised that he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black jeans to a high fashion runway show. And I was surprised to see him without Kim.

With so many tall, thin and very fashionable women there, I was half expecting to see his sister in law model Kendall Jenner, sashaying around. Lots of look-a-likes, but no Kendall.

As expected, Louis Vuitton spokesmodels Catherine Deneuve and Michelle Williams both eventually made their way through the hotel on their way to the show.

Kanye West, center, attends the Louis Vuitton Cruise Show at the Bob and Dolores Hope Estate on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, in Palm Springs.

Actress Williams shined in a printed slip dress with low cut neckline and black patent leather ankle boots while Deneuve oozed sophistication in black flowy pants and a silver shimmery shirt with a cutout right above her cleavage.

Also making splashes at the outdoor fashion show were Selena Gomez, Miranda Kerr, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Alicia Vikander and Maggie Cheung.

The reason for the gathering was Nicolas Ghesquiere’s Cruise 16 collection of structured modern pieces, long skirts, belly button cut-outs, boy shorts, and medieval dresses. The models weaved their way through the audience sitting poolside.

The show only lasted 15 minutes and immediately afterward guests were shuttled back to the Parker where they were able to let their hair down for the after-party.

Upon entering the lobby, guests were welcomed with trays of champagne and other delicious looking cocktails. Outside on the resort lawn, tables and chairs were set up throughout with hors d’oeuvres served on linen napkins and a buffet of tasty treats. People were even making s’mores out on the fire pit.

And to add entertainment to the party, there was a mini-carnival set up with bumper cars and games. One of which was the classic claw game, but instead of stuffed animals the machine was filled with — you guessed it — Louis Vuitton wallets. That’s right — the prize was a Louis Vuitton wallet.

The entertaining continued Thursday with a private luncheon at the Dinah Shore Estate, owned by Leonardo DiCaprio and a dinner planned for Copley’s — both are located in Palm Springs.

I think it’s safe to say Louis Vuitton definitively knows how to simultaneously show off his clothes and show his guests a good time.
